Our Invisalign treatment process

Step 1: Invisalign consultation at our Melbourne CBD clinic or online

The first step of your Invisalign journey with Gorgeous Smiles will be a consultation at our invisalign clinic in Melbourne CBD, or it can be conducted online. Here we will walk you through everything you need to know about the invisalign treatment plan. We'll also use Invisalign SmileView to give you a sneak peek into your future and show you what this treatment can do for you, hopefully helping you make your decision!

Step 2: Create your Invisalign treatment plan

Once you've chosen to move forward with Invisalign, it's time to start working on your personalised treatment plan! We'll create a 3D model of your smile, which we can use to create your custom aligners. We'll also walk you through how often you'll need the aligners replaced with the next size. This is where we can tailor the plan to you and your individual smile, making sure you get exactly what you need and want out of your aligners.

Step 3: Receive your Invisalign aligners

Now your invisalign aligners have been made to measure, we'll ask you to come back in to fit them. Our invisalign dentists will make sure they fit correctly and aren't too uncomfortable or painful before sending you on your way. You should get a new set of aligners every two weeks to keep your teeth moving in the right direction.

Step 4: Wearing your Invisalign aligners

You'll need to wear your Invisalign aligners for 22 hours a day to begin with, and this is crucial for your treatment plan. You should only remove them when eating, drinking, or cleaning the aligners. Once your teeth have straightened, you'll be able to drop down to only wearing them at nighttime, but at the start of your journey, it's crucial that you're wearing them as much as possible.

Step 5: Tracking your Invisalign progress

Our dentists will be able to track your progress at your routine appointments, but you can also do this yourself with Invisalign's Virtual Care AI app. This lets you send images to an Invisalign doctor site, who will then review your photos and send progress feedback to help you stay on track between appointments.

Step 6: Aftercare and retainers

Aftercare is essential in your treatment plan to keep your aligners looking and working their best. You'll need to keep up with your regular cleanings and appointments to make sure you're on track and work on aftercare at home between appointments. Without proper Invisalign aftercare, there's a chance your teeth won't straighten properly or will stain due to improper hygiene.

Invisalign FAQs

Are there any alternatives to Invisalign treatment?

The alternatives to Invisalign are:

  • Traditional braces

  • Lingual braces

  • Ceramic braces

Traditional braces are often reserved for more severe cases, although they tend to be faster-acting and more efficient. However, if you're looking for something less obvious, ceramic braces and lingual braces can be effective alternatives to Invisalign without obstructing your smile.

Invisalign vs traditional metal braces?

Traditional braces use metal brackets fused onto your teeth and metal wire to pull the teeth into their proper positions, making them effective for plenty of aliments such as overbites, intrusions or extrusions, and severely rotated teeth.

Invisalign are clear aligners that are much less obvious when placed in your mouth. They let you smile and talk without feeling self-conscious. They're perfect for treating smaller gaps and imperfections, and treatment times are often shorter for Invisalign than traditional braces. Some people might need to use both treatments to perfect their smile.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Most patients see results within as little as 12 weeks! However, most people will need to continue wearing their clear aligners for between six months and three years to make sure their teeth have settled into their new positions. After a few months, you should be able to drop down to only wearing your Invisalign at nighttime.
Invisalign can also be used to improve the overall appearance of your smile.

How often will I need to wear my Invisalign aligners post-treatment?

After your initial treatment plan, you'll often be advised to wear your aligners during the night for around a year. After this, you might be able to drop down to three to five nights per week, but this is at the discretion of your dentist.

Can I eat and drink while wearing Invisalign?

You'll need to remove your aligners before eating and drinking anything other than water, as chewing food can damage the plastic. Sugary drinks can also compromise the plastic, and darker beverages like coffee can stain. So, it's best to remove your aligners before every meal and clean them every day to avoid remnants from damaging them in the long run.

Does Invisalign treatment hurt?

No, Invisalign shouldn't hurt - although you might feel some discomfort when you first get your aligners fitted as your teeth adjust to the pressure. Most patients find that this goes away after a day or two, and if you're experiencing any pain we recommend consulting a professional to fix it.

Is there anything Invisalign cannot treat?

Most patients are candidates for Invisalign braces, but there are some limitations for people with certain conditions, such as:

  • Severe overbites/ underbites

  • Rotated teeth

  • Large gaps

  • Intrusions and extrusions

  • Very short teeth
