Porcelain Veneers treatment plans

Porcelain dental veneers are more durable than composite veneers, lasting 8-12 years on the tooth surface. They also do not require any drilling for placement, making them a quick and easy procedure with no temporary filling needed. However, porcelain veneers are more expensive than composite veneers.

No-prep veneers treatment plans

Porcelain and composite veneers often require your dentist to prep your teeth before being able to install your veneers, but you can also opt for no-prep veneers which can be placed over the top of your natural tooth instead. These don't require any preparation work, making for a quicker process overall.

No-prep veneers are technically removable as your teeth often don't need to be altered before the veneers are placed over the top of them, but they aren't always the best when your teeth are extensively damaged.

Porcelain veneers treatment process & how veneers work

Step 1: Cosmetic dentistry consultation & smile simulation for veneers

We have digital scanners and 3D printers in-house to offer you accurate consultations and smile simulations. During your initial consultation, we'll assess your teeth and walk you through your options. We'll also take pictures and x-rays of your teeth to use for future reference so you can see before and after photos!

Based on everything we gather at your consultation, we'll create your personalised treatment plan and show you a digital mock-up of your new smile so you can see an estimate of your results.

Step 2: Trial smile with temporary veneers

Porcelain veneers often can't be reversed in the future, so we often offer a trial smile with temporary veneers to our patients beforehand. These fit over the top of your natural tooth enamel to give you a hint of what you'd look like with veneers, and you can wear them out and about for a few weeks to make sure you're happy with your new smile!

Step 3: Dental Veneer preparation

Once you're happy to go ahead with your treatment, we'll remove your temporary veneers and get to work preparing your teeth. Here we'll remove a little of your tooth enamel to make room for the veneers so they don't stick out and look unnatural. We'll then take digital impressions of your teeth and send them to our in-house dental lab.

Step 4: Dental Veneer cementation

Once your veneers are ready, we'll invite you back in and get to work bonding them with a strong dental adhesive. Once they're attached, we'll check your bite and make any necessary adjustments before letting you see your new smile!

Step 5: Dental Veneer aftercare

Once your veneers have been fitted, it's time to take them out into the real world - but not without the proper veneer aftercare. Make sure you regularly brush and floss, avoiding hard and crunchy foods to prevent damage. With the correct aftercare your veneers can last for many years to come, so don't underestimate the importance of looking after your new teeth.

How much do porcelain veneers in Melbourne cost?

The cost of veneers in Melbourne can vary depending on the type of veneer you choose, whether you're getting a full set or just a few, and the dentist you go with. On average, porcelain veneers can range from $1,500 to $2,500 per tooth.

Porcelain veneers are more expensive than composite resin, but they often last longer and are less likely to stain. Some people choose to get only half their teeth fitted with veneers to keep the price down, and here at Gorgeous Smiles, we have payment plans to help you cover the overall cost.

Porcelain veneers FAQs

How long do porcelain veneers last?

The length of time your porcelain veneers will last depends on a number of things, such as your body, biology, and natural tooth structure. However, the average life of veneers is between 10 and 15 years when looked after properly. With that being said, patients have reported having veneers for much longer than that and

Do veneers stain like natural teeth?

No, veneers don't often stain like natural teeth because they're made from a non-porous material that prevents things like coffee and red wine from staining your teeth. However, they can still become yellow or discoloured over time if you make a habit of eating and drinking highly pigmented drinks and foods, so make sure you're mindful of what you're exposing your veneers to.

Are veneers painful?

No, veneers shouldn't be painful. Most patients actually report that the entire experience is comfortable and without discomfort, so you can rest assured knowing that we'll look after you from start to finish of your procedure.

How do I care for my porcelain veneers?

The best way to care for your porcelain veneers is to treat them just as you should your natural teeth. Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes, floss once a day, and use fluoride mouthwash once a day, too. Limit sweets and don't use your teeth as tools, and we'd recommend seeing your dentist every six months for a routine checkup.

Can I get veneers if I have gum disease?

No, you can't get veneers if you have untreated gum disease as this can spread throughout your mouth and break down the rest of your gums, which are the stable foundation for the veneers to be effective. So, you'll need to treat your gums and wait for them to fully heal before getting veneers.
