Invisalign Lite Vs Express

Invisalign Lite and Invisalign Express (i7) are two Invisalign treatment tiers designed for minor orthodontic issues. Both use clear removable aligners to move teeth, but they differ in the number of aligners used, treatment duration, and the range of issues they can address. This page compares the two to help you understand the differences before discussing options with your dentist.

All costs on this page are indicative. Full costs will be discussed with your dentist prior to treatment and may vary based on your individual case.

Invisalign Lite Vs Express: Treatment Approach

The treatment approach for both Invisalign Lite and Express is similar. The key difference is the scope of issues each tier addresses. Invisalign Lite treats minor orthodontic issues such as mild crowding or spacing. Invisalign Express treats very minor issues such as slight crowding or small gaps.

Invisalign Lite Treatment Approach

Consultation: Your dentist determines whether you are a candidate for Invisalign Lite. Digital scans and impressions are taken to create a 3D model, which is used to develop a customised treatment plan.

Aligners arrive: Clear aligners arrive at the practice. At a second appointment, the dentist checks the fit, demonstrates how to use the aligners, and explains the treatment process.

Treatment begins: You wear your aligners daily, changing them regularly as they apply pressure to move teeth into the planned position.

Regular check-ups: You attend appointments every six weeks so your dentist can assess progress and carry out any routine dental work.

Treatment completion: Once treatment ends, you transition to a night-time retainer. Retainer wear is essential — without it, teeth may shift back toward their original position.

Express Treatment Approach

Consultation: Your dentist determines whether you are a candidate for Invisalign Express. A 3D model is created and a treatment plan is developed based on your case.

Aligners ordered: Custom clear aligners are ordered.

Treatment begins: At a second appointment, the aligners are fitted and the treatment plan is reviewed. Up to seven aligners are used to apply gentle pressure to move teeth into the planned position.

Regular check-ups: Every six weeks, you attend appointments so your dentist can assess progress and make any adjustments.

Treatment completion: After treatment ends, you wear a retainer at night. Retainer wear is essential to maintain the result.

Invisalign Lite Vs Express: Treatment Duration

Invisalign Lite treatment duration

Invisalign Lite typically takes a few weeks to six months, depending on the amount of tooth movement required. It is designed for minor alignment and adjustment only. More complex issues involving bite correction or significant spacing require other Invisalign tiers.

Express treatment duration

Invisalign Express typically takes approximately three months. It addresses very minor issues such as slight crowding or small gaps. Your dentist will provide an estimated timeframe at your consultation.

Invisalign Lite Vs Express: Technological Features

Both Invisalign Lite and Express use the same core Invisalign technology:

SmartTrack Material: Applies gentle, constant force to move teeth.

SmartStage Technology: Programmes sequential tooth movements.

SmartForce Attachments: Features such as bite ramps, precision cuts, and power ridges to assist with tooth movement.

Invisalign Lite Vs Express: Cost

All costs are indicative. Full costs will be discussed prior to treatment.

Invisalign Lite cost

Invisalign Lite costs between $5,000 and $7,000. The cost depends on the amount of tooth movement required. Your dentist will provide a specific price at your consultation. Payment plans are available through AfterPay, Humm, and Zip.

Express cost

Invisalign Express costs between $3,500 and $5,500. It is the most affordable Invisalign tier. Payment plans are also available. Your dentist will provide a specific price at your consultation.

Invisalign Lite Vs Express: Clinical Support

Both treatments include regular in-person support. Check-ups occur every six weeks, where your dentist monitors progress, makes adjustments, and carries out any routine dental work including cleaning and decay checks. Support is also available via phone, email, or through the practice website.

Invisalign Lite Vs Express: Aftercare

The aftercare process for both treatments is similar. Key aftercare requirements:

Wear your retainer every night to maintain tooth position — without retainer wear, teeth may shift back.

Rinse your aligners after every use.

Avoid toothpaste on your aligners, as this can scratch them.

Brush and floss regularly to maintain oral hygiene.

Attend dental appointments every six months.

Be aware that staining foods and drinks (coffee, wine, berries) may affect tooth colour.

Risks of Invisalign Treatment

All orthodontic treatments carry risks. Risks of Invisalign Lite and Express treatment include discomfort and pressure when new aligners are placed, particularly in the first few days of each new tray; tooth root resorption (shortening of the tooth roots); enamel wear at attachment sites; gum irritation from aligner edges; temporary speech changes; the possibility that treatment may take longer than estimated or may not fully achieve the planned outcome; and relapse (teeth shifting back) if retainers are not worn as directed. Your dentist will discuss all risks specific to your case before treatment begins.

Book a Consultation

If you're considering Invisalign treatment, a consultation is the appropriate starting point. Your dentist will assess your teeth, discuss whether Invisalign Lite, Express, or another tier is clinically appropriate for your case, provide a treatment plan with costs, and discuss all risks involved. There is no obligation.
